Don Aronow Memorial Race Around Long Island Updates
September 22, 2012 is the date set for the Third annual Don Aronow Memorial Around Long Island Marathon, a 271 mile course starting at Buoy #27 on Long Island Sound. Headquarters is LaMottas Restaurant at Manhasset
Bay
Marina in Port Washington, NY.
We travel North-East from Buoy #27 to eastern Long Island, past Orient Point, around Montauk Point, into the Atlantic Ocean, past Coney Island & Brooklyn, through New York
Harbor, keeping Governors Island and Manhattan to port, up the East River and then run back into Long Island Sound to the finish, Buoy #27. We will then return to LaMottas Restaurant for the Award Celebration.
On September 25, 2011 Joe Cibellis & Joe Sgro broke Stu Hayin's 1989 record of 3hrs 6min. They came in at 3 hours and 5 minutes. The 2010 winner was Joe Fusco in his 31 Sonic with small-blocks at 6 hours and 15 minutes. Kattack.com provides GPS live position and speed updates on the internet.
A major TV sports network had expressed interest in a NASCAR style live broadcast of the event. The promoters of the Don Aronow Memorial Marathon Race Around Long Island are looking for businesses and individuals interested in sponsorship of next year’s event. Sponsors who are looking to promote their brand in the international market could use the event to showcase their product lines before millions of potential users. The goal is to attract more pre race interest and help to defray the overhead. If you are interested, contact Billy Frenz
