By popular demand a third
NPBA POKER RUN
wa added to the 2001 season.

The Glen Cove Powerboat Poker Run and Radar Run was hosted by John Ferraro's Steamboat

Landing Restaurant and Bar. After being cancelled on September 14th, due to the World Trade Center

disaster, it was rescheduled for September 22nd. Contestants came from as far away as Maine to enjoy the

waters of Long Island Sound.

Entertainment on Friday night was provided by "DELICIOUS", a contemporary rock group with 3 girls up

The real speedboat fun began at 12 noon on Saturday. The fleet blasted to Bridgeport, Connecticut, then to

Cold Spring Harbor, Long Island, and then to Sand's Point. The final leg was the radar run.

Vinny Rifice and Jimmy MacIntyre were the fastest and awarded KING OF THE SOUND in

"Color Me Bad", Vinny's 32 Skater with Falcon Blower motors, recording 141 MPH passes. The fastest

outboard award went to Michael Alexander in his 32 Skater powered by triple 300 HP Mercury outboards

clocking 105 MPH. The "Fastest V-Bottom" Award went to Ron Bourgoin's "SHAKIN", a 37 Outerlimits

from Maine running 98 MPH. The "Best Looking Boat" award went to John O'Loughlin's "What a Gas"

, a 42 Outerlimits powered by Eickert Engines and throttled by Michael Fiore, the president and founder of

Outerlimits Powerboats

.
Michael Infante in his 39 Sea Ray was the Grand Prize winner though with a full house and he received the

biggest trophy.

Many boats were not able to make this event due to the restrictions of pleasure boat travel on the Hudson

River, prohibiting access to Long Island Sound via the East River, Harlem River, Hudson River and the

Atlantic Ocean.
