--75 Mile Course--

RESULTS

The fleet of 25 entrants in the GLEN COVE HI-STAKES POKER AND

RADAR RUN, assaulted the choppy waters of Long Island Sound on

Saturday, October 3rd, 2003. Experiencing sea conditions of 6 to 8

foot swells, 30 feet apart made for some tricky navigation and survival.

Trim” was the word…those that new how to did well, those that did not

were sore for two days. The 30 mile run to Bridgeport, Connecticut

separated the fleet instantly.

Steamboat Landing Restaurant and Bar hosted and co-sponsored the event along with Miller Lite.

Tom Fancher’s, “Full Throttle Marine” helped produce the event along with the NATIONAL POWERBOAT ASOCIATION.

Bob Contreras’s 40’ Turbine powered Skater was the 1st boat to

Bridgeport and also the “Fastest Cat” in the Radar Run at 143 mph.

In addition, he was lucky enough to win the 8-man Jacuzzi presented by

Miller Beer. John O’Loughlin remained “King Of the V-Bottoms” in

his 42’ Outerlimits, “All Fired Up”, by being the first V-Bottom to

Bridgeport and also the Fastest V in the radar run at 116 mph. The

“Fastest Outboard Award” went to Robin Sherman and Jim Winship in their twin Mercury powered

28’ Skater, “Madison Motor Sports”. John Coen and son won the “Best Looking Boat Award” in their

30’ Competition SUPERBOAT and Ozzie Castellnau’s “Wizard of Oz” Team, a 36’ Nor-Tech Cat, won

the “Best Looking Crew” prize. Joey Rosati won the “Spirit of the NPBA” award in his 30’ Formula and

John Ruggeri’s, 40’ Activator, “White Lightning”, won the “Sportsman’s Award”.

The big winners of the day were Ron Bourgoin in his 37’ Outerlimits, “Shakin’”, by pulling a flush and

winning $10,000.00. Sal Sciandra won the 2nd and 4th place awards in his 36’ Eliminator Cat, “Awesome

”, with 3-6’s for $5,000.00 and 2 pair for $2,000.00. Doug Stevens in his 24’“Batboat” by Reindl, took

3rd place and winning $3,000.00 by pulling 3-3’s.

After a 3 week postponement due to Hurricane Isabel, the rescheduled event proved to be a great success

and fun for all.
