Oh What a Day!
The Manhasset Bay Gold Cup Trophy was preserved for another year and awarded this year to Stu Hayim and his boat named, "RECOVERY" a 40' Skater Catamaran that travelled at speeds over 150 MPH during the Manhasset Bay Gold Cup Poker Run.
The event took place on Saturday, August 18th, under sunny skies and ideal water condltlonz on Long Island Sound. The event was hosted by LaMotta's Restaurant and Manhasset Day Marina and produced by the National Powerboat Association.
Over 50 powerboats participated in this 75 mile event coming in from all over the Northeast.
In 1988, Guy LaMotta brought back the Gold Cup Races, which as area natives might remember, got their start here in the 1920's and featured such racers as Horace Dodge, Carl Fisher, and Carl Bragg; with their race boats called "BABY BOOTLEGGER", "HOTSY TOTSY" and "MISS AMERICA", respectively. Today we feature such names as Stu Hayim, Peter Meyer, Guy LaMotta and their boats named "RECOVERY", "INSTIGATOR", and "DRY MARTINI", respectively.
